Suspicious Packages galore....

Apparently a suspicious package caused some craziness this afternoon right behind the Capitol (and right in front of the Dever's house!). They shut down all traffic from 4th and 5th street on East Capitol (right in front of the church block) and evidently brought out a guy in a bomb suit to investigate. My favorite part: Micheal Lawrence, one of our pastors, was trying to drive back home when he was stopped by a cop who explained he couldn't go any farther. According to Daniel Schriener it went something like this (this is all second hand so I'm certain the details aren't quite right):
Cop: Sorry sir you are not permitted to go any farther for safety reasons.
ML: So you've evacuated the residents in those houses?
Cop: Umm, no sir
ML: So it's not safe for me to go to my house, but it's not dangerous enough to evacuate my pregnant wife and 4 children out of the house?
Gotta love DC police logic. I believe they allowed him through. Sadly we have no pictures from this event--which I'm very surprised by--you'd think someone would have snapped a shot of the bomb suit guy right outside residential houses (with the residents still in them)!
Thankfully the package was nothing remarkable. Interestingly enough, another suspicious package was found at a metro station, so they seriously stepped up security at all metro stations and I got to see about 12 of DC's finest hanging out outside of my metro station on my way home.
Some aspects of DC life will never become normal...
